Long before the sharing economy encouraged everyone to rent pretty much everything, Alperstein’s Furniture Company recognized a niche in D.C. that would make it a prime place for furniture rental: its ever-revolving corps of diplomats. 

Since the late 1940s, Alperstein’s has been renting high-quality, sometimes designer pieces to furnish the rental homes of hundreds of diplomats and embassy employees around Greater Washington. That will all come to an end in late March as the business closes…
