Senior living center backs off big rent hike after criticism

The operator of a Coon Rapids senior living center is retreating from plans to hit residents with double-digit rent increases after weeks of protests drew the ire of state legislators.

The Star Tribune had drawn attention to the rent hikes at Autumn Glen Senior Living in a story last weekend. Now it reports that Guardian Angels Senior Services of Elk River, a nonprofit that manages the 100-person residence, is cutting the rent increases to 4 percent, from 15 percent to 30 percent.
